Baked Perfection

As promised, here is my delicious baked apple dessert …

Here’s how we made it Healthy Style

(For two servings)

  • 2 apples (I used Granny Smith)
  • 4 tsp. brown sugar
  • 4 walnut halves, broken into small pieces and divided
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 white wine

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  With a paring knife and spoon, make a “well” in the apples, removing the stem and core, but leaving the bottom intact.

For each apple – place 1 tsp. of brown sugar into the “well” and then add the walnut pieces.  Top the walnuts with the remaining teaspoon of brown sugar.

Place apples in a baking dish, add the water and white wine.  Sprinkle the apples with cinnamon.  Cover baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes – 1 hour.  (I left ours in for an hour and they probably could have come out 10 minutes earlier to retain their form better – just make sure to check on them near the end.)

Allow to cool slightly before serving with nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt.  Enjoy!
